Department of Physics Operation Guidelines for Graduate Student Entrance Scholarships

I. This set of operation guidelines is specifically issued in order to employ research support funds effectively and to comply with the regulations of scholarship and support funds issuance for graduate students of the university.
II. Sources of funds are the funds of the university allocated for Department of Physics to execute under Public Funds for Students and Scholarships, and are distributed to excellent new students in doctoral master’s programs of the department in accordance with the review procedures described below.
III. Review procedures:
A. The Graduate Scholarship Committee of the department is responsible for review and allocation of scholarship places.
B. The master’s program has two scholarship places, each with NT$30,000, and are issued in accordance with the following entrance results:
1. One scholarship place for a student enrolled through recommendation, the issuance is in accordance with entrance score:
a) For students directly enrolled due to excellent performances, the issuance is determined by the best score of assessment performances.
b) For other students enrolled through recommendation, the issuance is determined by the best score of the entrance exams of the top 20% of the officially enrolled students.
2. One scholarship place for a student enrolled through examination, the issuance is determined by the best score of the top five students with the best examination performances.
C. Scholarship places for doctoral program has no limitation; each scholarship is worth NT$30,000:
1. For students who enter doctoral program directly from undergraduate programs with overall grades in undergraduate programs ranking in top 10% in their classes.
2. For students who enter doctoral program directly from master’s programs, with overall grades in the last school year or the last semester ranking in top 10% in their classes.
D. The awarded students may not accept other scholarships appropriated under Public Funds for Students and Scholarships of the university.
IV. The research support funds are issued in accordance with regulations of the university, and the department is responsible for settlement procedures.
V. The present regulations shall be implemented following approvals of department general meetings. The same procedure shall be carried out when amendments are to be made.
